delayed flight that put us right against a chicago/long weekend jam; 4-hr (vs. normally 2) drive to indiana; joy-ridin' in a red mustang; crossing 3 state lines in a single day; missing rehearsal (darcy played yuee); family style papa vino's rehearsal dinner; the amusing motel 6 experience w/ the dallas folks; the temptations and treasures store (for the honeymoon suite, of course); polish wedding buffet that dave called fast food; bruce crying (no, bawling) @ the altar; frolicking @ sundown while scott&tem shot; late nite @ kelly's pub b/c she did ondat a fave; early morn 1.5 hr (vs. fri.'s 4) drive back to chicago; architectural cruise; biking as mode of transport for two days; classy hotel burnham; magnificent mile; trying to eat @ the hongs' 65 cents but finding it closed twice; millennium park; lakeshore drive; fireworks @ navy pier; the view from "big john"; central market-ish fox & obel; chinatown (and NOT getting a table @ the infamous shui-wah dimsum); shedd aquarium (we could sit there for hours just staring at the marine life), field museum (y's heaven), adler's planetarium AND art institute of chicago (g's heaven) all on the last day!; lou malnati's (now delivering to anywhere in the u.s.) to-go before heading to the airport ... where g headed home but y stayed for his next day flight to singapore... which is why she's writing this without y at the moment. :\
whew, short-but-lots-happened trip!
last sat./sun. was the great outdoors at crandall ranch with the dcfc young adults. this memorial weekend, we'll head north for bruce & darice's wedding in indiana where yuee will debut his groomsmanship and then play for a couple of days in chicago. y then heads straight from chicago to ... ironically ... home in s'pore for an extended client project. we'll likely meet up somewheres in asia. place TBD.
we heart traveling.
fri. evening g surprised y w/ a personal dinner of his fave meats & sweets for his 34th. happy birthday, old young man! saturday, we lunched/gorged w/ a hodgepodge mishmash of friends and got our japanese fix (after gone w/o sushi since jp trip last nov) at the semi-new japan house in plano. funny the unique circle of acquaintances you build over time in a given place...
the afternoon was fairly eventful: just barely made it to jojo's graduation @ tcu (her mom's comment "oh, are you guys in the same dept. as jojo?" made the b-day elder grin), cruised ft. worth, coffee&catchup with the truong's sans baby morgan, and ended the eve stopping by grapevine mills which we hadn't gone to in ages... since our way back when dating days when g was still obsessed w/ sanrio. we window-shopped the store -- she resisted the urge to buy despite his temptings. :P
on sun., we honoured mom ong w/ a rose arrangement sent from our reliable s'pore florist and mom kao w/ a brunch at sweet tomatoes. we stumbled upon this fresh choice-ish place in utah and were excited to find one in addison.
family, friends, food. we are happily full; finely filled and fueled. :]
