so the brimming past weekend...
we *kinda, sorta* rocked (but no head-banging) with caleb's band unveiled last sat. eve at live @ mokah. they vied with 6 other bands for a prize in a friendly battle of the bands. they're truly hard to the hard-core... hehe. :D but we digged the chill venue, a gallery-ish coffee shop/arts&music space deep in deep ellum but with a spiritual twist. unveiled's first cd is out and we surprisingly found "Yuee and Grace Ong" in their shoutouts. :) went w/ christine c, a now-legit vegan, to this vegetarian buffet in koreatown and succumbed yuee to "food that food eats". :] hey, there was homemade soy bulgogi?!
ears ringing, we left caleb's jamfest early to head back to surburbia (albeit "downtown" plano) for more music from ryan & sam @ this place called fusion cafe. they were playing to raise money for ryan's africa missions trip. it was swarming with asian kiddos. we met a couple of easily-mistaken-for "misfits" that turned out to be part of this congregation called "church under the tree" that meets literally under a tree @ a nearby park and reaches out to disenfranchised youth.
though we're not as involved in youth ministry as before, it's always refreshing to see our kids step up, reach out, cry out for change, and be that change: christine w/ her efforts with the asha orphanage after her india stint, ryan's heart for the aids epidemic and some of our former kids (chrissie, james, and more) who are going to thailand, kenya, and other locales this summer to speak boldly the word of Christ. we are, as always, blessed that God has called us to be senders. and He time and time again proves that we really cannot outgive Him.
sunday afternoon we went to one of REI's paddling days where we got to try out kayaks @ mckinney's towne lake. guess it's time for the summer sports?
we hadn't been to our wedding photogs' site in a long time and were surprised to find not only a nice redesign but that we were in one of their photo essays. love the description -- hehe, unique alright! we like their new "+" concept throughout as well. wonder why. ;-)
also, g's on snapvillage for a totally frivolous fun mock ad.
*k, jumping off our supermicro-stardom box now* ... to a packed weekend ahead.
happy green day! green sure appears to have been greenin' loud of late. we've been pinking up and saying yellow, of course. ha! couldn't resist that age-old chinky joke. :P
we went to a "live green" expo in plano last week and picked up a rain barrel carried by a local vendor from nearby mckinney. yuee had been looking to get one since last year so it was cool just happening upon it. interestingly, they're made from olives and smell quite olive-y! it was encouraging to see our community embrace the global awareness movement and all the efforts towards sustainability.
we're kinda mommy/daddy-ing for grace's parents while they're overseas. mostly for gloria, the big eternal baby. :P she's often difficult but we do love her to pieces, though. a lesson most definitely in unconditional love. and practice for later. later, yes.
along the same lines, we're considering a replacement for g's car. the new 1 series we test drove last month is tempting quite. practical? no. we're already trying to rid a coupe. yuee's still a bit too enamored. if only they offered the hatchback in the u.s.! oh, but let it be known that we've made a pact nev'r to mini-van ourselves. :PP
this time next week we'll be en route to snowbird. his 3rd utah visit this season and her 2nd. never been to slc until recently but digging the resorts there (esp. the proximity to the airport!)... three "childrenless couples", as he has nicked, shall blissfully rip the slopes together. it ain't spring yet. :D
